SKILLMAN, NJ – The University of Virginia reclaimed the No. 1 ranking, jumping ahead of ACC rival North Carolina as Oracle and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced the updated Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings for Division I men on Tuesday.

The Tar Heels saw their 15-match winning streak come to an end on March 11, as they dropped a 4-3 decision in Tallahassee, Florida, to the then-51st-ranked (now No. 23) Florida State Seminoles. Virginia, meanwhile, went 2-0 on its road trip to Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Cavaliers defeated then-No. 26 Tulsa 6-1 on March 10 and then-No. 13 Oklahoma 4-3 on March 12.

Northwestern moved back into the Top 10 this week. The Wildcats, who are off to the best start in program history at 14-1 and have won 11 straight matches, defeated then-No. 8 Illinois 4-3 on March 12. It was the first victory for Northwestern over Illinois since 1997.

Cavaliers Reclaim Top Spot
After spending the first four weeks of 2016 as the nation’s No. 1 team, Virginia spent the past month ranked No. 2, as they fell one position following its loss to the team that would overtake them in the rankings, North Carolina, at the 2016 ITA Division I National Men’s Team Indoor Championship. Thanks to a North Carolina loss and Virginia victories as detailed above, the Cavaliers are back in the top spot of the rankings. Virginia returns to ACC play on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET, as they host No. 23 Florida State.

#OracleITARankings Big Mover Of The Week
A win over the No. 1-ranked team in the nation, followed by a victory over another ranked foe propelled Florida State from No. 51 last week to No. 23 in this week’s rankings. The Seminoles, now 11-4 on the season, are the only team in 2016 to have defeated North Carolina. They followed up the dramatic 4-3 win over the Tar Heels two days later with an efficient 5-2 victory over Duke. Florida State takes to the road this week, playing at No. 40 Virginia Tech on Friday and at No. 1 Virginia on Sunday.
