TEMPE, Ariz.
– The University of Florida, fresh of its first ITA Division I National Women’s Team Indoor Championship since 1999, remain atop the national team rankings as Oracle and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced the latest Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Division I Women’s National Team Rankings on Wednesday.

To claim the #ITAIndoors title, the Gators had to defeat four teams ranked in this week’s Top 10. Florida opened the National Indoors tournament with a 4-1 win over No. 10 Michigan, and then bounced No. 7 Texas Tech to advance to the semifinals, where they were matched up with SEC rival Georgia. Florida outlasted the Bulldogs 4-0, setting the stage for a No. 1 versus No. 2 showdown with North Carolina in the championship match.

Florida opened the contest by winning the doubles point, and victories at No. 5 (Brooke Austin), No. 6 (Kourtney Keegan) and No. 3 singles (Ingrid Neel) secured a hard-fought 4-2 win over the Tar Heels. It is the seventh National Indoors title for the Gators. You can read a complete recap of the #ITAIndoors final here.

North Carolina remains No. 2 in the national ranking, while Georgia shot up three places to No. 3. Ohio State, which lost a 4-3 heartbreaker to the Tar Heels in the semifinals, also had a three-position jump, going from No. 7 to No. 4.

Texas Tech and Michigan are newcomers to the Top 10 this week. The Red Raiders defeated No. 8 seed Vanderbilt in the opening round of #ITAIndoors, before falling to the Gators in the quarterfinals. Texas Tech closed its National Indoors run with a 4-0 win over No. 8 Pepperdine. The Wolverines bounced back from their loss to the Gators by scoring a 4-1 win over No. 12 Vanderbilt and a 4-2 victory against No. 15 Texas A&M.

Next week sees the debut of the computerized national team rankings, with the rankings expanding from 25 to 50 teams, and a shift in release date, as the rankings will be published on Tuesdays going forward.
