Oracle Partners With Universal Tennis to Fuel Growth of UTR

Today, Universal Tennis - the company behind the Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) -  announced a major strategic partnership with Oracle.

According to the announcement, Oracle will use UTR to determine player selection and seeding in marquee Oracle collegiate tennis events, including the Oracle ITA Masters. Universal Tennis will leverage Oracle’s technology to further enhance and grow UTR, which will now be officially called “UTR Powered by Oracle”.

Oracle and Universal Tennis will partner on strategic marketing initiatives, supporting existing and developing new marquee UTR Powered by Oracle Events around the world.

“UTR is already changing the experience for tennis players worldwide by providing a unifying digital platform for the sport,” said Oracle CEO Mark Hurd. “We’re excited to partner with Universal Tennis to take this to the next level, investing our technology and marketing resources, while also featuring UTR powered by Oracle in events and tournaments worldwide.”

We’re big fans of UTR here, and we’re excited to see support for more events and tournaments organized around the rating system. UTR Powered Events are becoming increasingly popular among organizers and coaches in college and futures tournaments, for collegiate coaches to understand the skill level of the team they are competing against and for futures organizers to help set lineups. UTR is being leveraged on the pro level tournaments for wildcard and qualifier selections, because the rating system’s data takes into account recent performance, player momentum and play across all types of surfaces.
Universal Tennis also informed us that they’ve officially opened up the community to all tennis players. Starting today, all players can sign up to get their UTR and create a profile page that features a photo, their rating, location and other useful tennis-related facts. Members will also search through the Universal Tennis database to see how they compare to other players in their local communities and around the world.  Players can join by signing up at www.MyUTR.com

The momentum is building for Universal Tennis and UTR; this partnership comes on the heels of the company’s January announcement of its partnership with Tennis Channel and its new ownership group, which includes industry leaders in sports, technology and media.
